Located in Denver , Colorado , the Interwest Equity Assistance Center is one of 10 regional Equity Assistance Centers funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The IEAC staff provides training and technical assistance in the areas of race, gender, national origin, and English language acquisition within the larger context of school improvement. Our services extend to public school personnel, school board members, students, parents, and other community members. We assist public school staff, and state and tribal education agencies in providing equitable, high-quality education to all learners within a six-state region including Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Wyoming.
IEAC Mission:
To achieve equity in education by implementing a comprehensive program that calls for the ultimate development of a school environment, including parental and community participation, that models equitable treatment of all citizens, respect and inclusion of diverse populations, and a commitment to the premise that all students are capable of achieving high academic standards.
IEAC Goal:
The goal of the Interwest Equity Asssistance Center is to support access and equity in public schools and help school districts to solve equity problems in education related to race, gender, and national origin. In so doing, the Center will assist school districts to insure quality education for all students, with equal access to all programs and activities, equal opportunity for academic achievement, fair treatment in policy and practice, equitable rewards and outcomes, and respect for themselves and others.
